Currently UBC students, staff and faculty members in conjunction with the SEEDS program are working to develop a carbon neutral stratigy for the UBC vancouver campus. The project aims explore what “carbon neutrality” could mean in the context of UBC. Our goal is to conduct the research necessary to assist the UBC Sustainability Office in developing relevant strategies and possibly support a student referendum on the topic. This document is in progress: check back frequently to see whats happening!

Climate Action Partnership

The UBC Climate Action Partnership unites UBC scholars, researchers, students, staff, and campus community members to make UBC a model of climate neutrality. We are working together to make our university an incubator for cutting edge climate change solutions and a model for other campuses and communities.

The UBC Climate Action Partnership seeks to harness UBC's innovative, educative and research potential to reduce the University's contribution to climate change. Through this partnership we will create a roadmap to make UBC climate neutral within 10 years, with yearly emission reduction action plans and reporting.

As of now the CAP is comprised of representatives from the Alma Mater Society, the Graduate Student Society, the Campus Sustainability Office, the TREK program, the Student Society at UBC-Okanogan, Common Energy, and is open to any other students who are interested and committed to the cause.

What is possible when education and research is focused to create a strategy for becoming carbon neutral?

Read about the Kinsdale Energy Descent Action Plan - created by a class on Practical Sustainability at Kinsdale Further Education College. Through meaningful engagement of town stakeholders, the class created a strategy for their town of Kinsdale, Ireland to become oil independant by 2021. Their plan has since been implemented into town policy.
